I am in my mid 20s, but twice this past week I have been mistaken for a 17 year old. People say "Oh honey, some day you will appreciate that." You know what? I don't care if I will someday love looking younger than I am...having people think I am 10 years younger than I am (and a teenager at that) is NOT fun! When the door to door salesman comes to my door and asks if my parents are home...I am not amused.
So when will I start appreciating looking younger?!?!?!?!
Babes, I've never been mistaken for being younger than I am by looks, but you know what I always hated? People who took me seriously until they found out I was *only* in my 20's. That really cooked my goat. My opinions (the same ones I had before they knew my age) were suddenly "from a mere babe" or amusing to them once they discovered I was twenty-something.
ReplyDeleteMy 30th birthday has been the most important one for me so far because I knew people would start taking me more seriously when they discovered my age.
So I guess I don't really know what you're going through per se, but I do know what you mean about not feeling like a valid adult. Yours is just more evident than mine was.
I hope you look 30 when you're 50--maybe then you'll have the best of both worlds!! ;)
You will appreciate it when you are no longer young. :) Take it from someone who knows that youth is wasted on the young...this from an old soon-to-be 50 year old.

ReplyDeleteI used to get that. Doesn't happen so much these days...so, eventhough it is annoying and upsetting at times, it's a good thing at 35.
40 is fab.
Hey Jen!!
ReplyDeleteSome day you will appreciate it....more and more after 30. I got asked for ID a few months back........at 41 that made me feel awesome!!
